This October, I travelled to South Korea for the K-Beauty Expo — but for me, the trip was never only about attending an exhibition.

I also wanted to go back into the stores, walk through the beauty districts, look at what Korean shoppers are buying, compare brands, inspect products and see what is actually sitting on the shelves in Seoul right now.

So naturally, I went shopping.

I visited beauty stores across Myeongdong and Gangnam, including MIMILINE, CHICOR and Olive Young, spending time looking through Korean skincare, comparing products and seeing which brands continue to dominate the local market.

And I came away feeling even more confident about something I already knew:

If I search Myeongdong, Gangnam, MIMILINE, CHICOR and Olive Young and still cannot find that supposedly famous Korean product… I start asking questions. 👀😂

Of course, that does not automatically mean a product is fake.

Not every Korean brand is available in every Korean shop, and some brands focus heavily on international markets.

But it does highlight something important:
